Ames Community School District 2002 Roofing Projects

Ames, Iowa

The local one cent optional sales tax has funded many new projects locally that never would have been feasible without the extra tax revenue. Due to the increase in funds, many area schools could finally afford much needed new roof structures.

Several schools were included in the ten year re-roofing master plan. The new roofs were designed to compliment the structures and not to compete with the existing facade. Roosevelt Elementary was an interesting case with its signature key stone at the apex of the facade in jeopardy of being taken down to simplify the facade because of the new roof. Locals and graduates of the school lobbied to save the stone and it was reinstalled after the roof was completed.

Completed schools include: Ames High School, Ames Middle School, Administrative Services Center, Edwards Elementary, Fellows Elementary, Meeker Elementary, Mitchell Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Sawyer Elementary, and Wilson Beardshear Elementary Schools.
