Ames High School Bandroom Addition

Ames, Iowa

The high school was in need of doubling the space of the bandroom due to high participation. The issue involved with this project was the lack of space available for expansion. The building was locked in by parking lot and other portions of the building.

The design solution was to fill in the available space and then to add a movable partition door, which allowed for flexible use by the music department.

The new bandroom seats 140 students, 30 more than the existing room. When combined through the open partition, all 275 students in the marching band can practice together during inclement weather.

Because of safety concerns caused by the crowded conditions, the District wanted the project done as quickly as possible. Documents were ready for bidding three weeks after initial notification, and students were able to use the facility the following season.
