United Presbyterian Church Additions and Renovations

Denison, Iowa

The growing congregation in this church identified some basic needs to be addressed immediately while they consider other possibilities for change in the future. Their immediate concerns to address are a habitually leaking roof and inadequate restrooms. As with all new projects, we begin with a review of the entire facility for accessibility, serviceability and functionality. Their current facility did not serve them well because the majority of parking is situated along the side of the building. Most parishioners enter the building through this side entrance which is ill suited for gathering and greeting. The other major concern is that the fellowship hall is too small to house their current gatherings for meals or programs.

During our initial presentation, a concept was described where a new gathering / welcoming foyer was shown alongside the sanctuary. This will allow members to enter the building directly from the parking before having to make the choice of whether to enter the sanctuary from the front or rear. Also shown was an addition to the fellowship hall to properly size the space for the congregational gatherings. These new spaces, along with a new sloped metal roof and new restroom / offices wing are under final consideration for implementation at this time.
