Delarosa Residence
Ames, Iowa
Disappointed by the options available in the new housing market and facing the large costs associated with adapting an existing residence, this client came to Benjamin Design for home that could meet her families special needs.
Accessible design was the first priority for the Delarosa family and guided many of the decisions. The main entrance of the home has a graceful ramp that allows for access in the front of the home. Also the rear deck incorporates a ramp that allows passage to and from the landscaped garden path.
The interior of the home uses an open floor plan that allows for wheelchair maneuverability while screens provide privacy and separation from the entryway. Skylights and light tubes bring in natural daylight to the interior spaces, to reduce the need for artificial lighting.
The home’s interior as well as exterior provide an example of how to integrate accessible, affordable and innovative design in new home construction.
