The Story County Habitat for Humanity is located in the office space right below Benjamin Design. This close proximity makes it easy to meet together with Habitat organizers and the families that will be building their new home. During these meetings we discuss the process of building and designing a house that will fit their needs and fit within the context of the existing neighborhood. After, we draw up the building plans. The average four person family will build a three bedroom house with a maximum footprint of 1,050 square feet. Families in the Habitat for Humanity program have a responsibility to put in what Habitat calls “sweat equity” which is 450 to 500 hours of work that is to be performed on the home before the family can purchase and move in. Benjamin Design’s employees help along side the family and other community volunteers to build the new home. Together, our partnership with Habitat for Humanity is building affordable housing for a stronger community.
